Role Purpose:

The Awards team is a part of Save the Children’s Kenya Country Office.

The Awards intern will work closely with the Awards Coordinator and the compliance officer to provide award management support to the country office.

Scope of Role:

Dimensions

Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners.

Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. Save the Children has an operational presence in Dadaab Refugee Camp, Garissa, Mandera, Meru and Wajir – with plans to expand into Bungoma and Turkana in 2014.

We work through partners in many other parts of the country. Currently, we have a staff complement of approximately 240 staff and an operating budget of approximately US$21 million this year.

Key Areas of Accountability:

-Assist in setting up award files for new funding and ensuring that they are regularly updated with all the relevant documents and correspondences.,
-Support the awards coordinator in updating AMS records for existing grants with the relevant documentation
-Support the Awards coordinator in facilitating reviews of, Funds Summaries, agreements and amendments before forwarding them for approval by the CD.
-Regular review of Country Office Pipelines against AMS data ensuring all opportunities are captured in AMS and that any rejections/cancellations are updated.
-Support the awards coordinator and the compliance officer in ensuring that award are properly closed out in AMS.
-Assist the awards coordinator and the compliance officer in organising donor compliance trainings for field offices.
-Support the CO awards team in preparation for Kick off meetings and support in on-going partner monitoring visits.
-Any other relevant duties as may have been assigned by supervisor.

Job Title: Project Manager – Early Childhood Development (ECD)

Job Purpose:

The Project Manager – ECD is responsible for the day to day implementation of an anticipated project funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation focused on ECD capacity building for Catholic Sisters.

S/he will work closely with the National Association of Sisterhood of Kenya (AOSK) to implement the anticipated project.

S/he is expected to coordinate and oversee the development and implementation of an ECD training curriculum for Catholic Sisters with a particular focus on Sisters working with children 0-5 affected by HIV/AIDS.

All planning and implementation will be done in close coordination with AOSK with the aim of increasing the organizational sustainability of Sister Congregations.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Serve as overall Project Manager for the project
• With partner staff, design and implement relevant, effective, efficient, sustainable interventions that achieve project goals and objectives in a timely manner, using donor-approved project documents and work plans to guide implementation.
• Prioritize the participation of Sisters throughout the programming process and ensure interventions address identified priority needs by congregations.
• Provide guidance and technical oversight to ensure that ECD training for sisters is developed according to international and Kenyan ECD standards.
• Manage on-going relations with project participants and address any potential constraints in a timely manner.
• Provide overall financial management of the project.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of program finances and progress status, review actual financial performance against the budget, and explain variances on a regular basis.
• Organize and lead monthly ECD curriculum development meetings with key stakeholders including the Ministry of Education, local Universities, ECD experts, Catholic Sisters, and representatives of the Catholic Church

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirement:

• Degree in Teaching, Early Childhood Development, Social Work, Health or related field.
• At least 3 years of ECD field experience including experience in ECD curriculum development and trainings.
• Strong background in working with children 0-5 affected by HIV/AIDS.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Demonstrated ability to foster integration in programming approach and work with varied teams.
• A professional with high level of integrity and good stewardship of resources
• Ability to cultivate constructive relationships and promote safety and security.

Internews Europe is an international media development organization that improves access to information and freedom of expression worldwide.

Internews Europe is launching a media development project focused on child rights in Kenya.

The project will support ‘traditional’ media outlets (TV, radio, newspapers) and use new media systems (websites, social media, and cell phones) to better communicate information on child rights issues, expand the public and policy debate, and amplify child and advocacy voices on child rights.

Internews Europe is looking for eleven (11) motivated staff members to implement the child rights media project.

The CSO and Children Partnership Manager will be responsible for the development, management and coordination of Civil Society Organisation media capacity building activities and children media content generation activities in collaboration with national and international partners.

S/he will supervise 5 (five) positions.

Specific responsibilities:

-Design, coordinate and direct media capacity building activities for Kenyan CSOs, CBOs, international organizations working on child rights and relevant state institutions for advocates to better access media channels, network with media, and amplify their voices.
-Promote dialogue and networking between CSOs and the media.
-Design, coordinate and direct media activities with schools, youth groups, journalism clubs and universities to empower children and youth to generate child rights content and engage media.
-Build and maintain strong partnerships with child rights organizations, partner schools and journalism clubs as well as media outlets; manage relations with and supervise implementing partners working with children on storytelling and media literacy.
-Write project reporting of training activities.

Qualifications:

-Minimum 7 years experience in working on child rights in Kenya, or 7 years in the media.
-Minimum BA in Social Sciences and/or Communications.
-Experience in building the capacity of local organizations.

Skills:

-Thorough knowledge of child rights, social and legal issues specific to Kenya, with existing network of international and local child rights organizations in Kenya.
-Excellent communication skills including proven interpersonal and networking skills.
-Strong organizational skills with proven ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priority and work under minimum supervision.
-Strong project reporting skills.

Job Purpose:
The Project Coordinator will have an overall responsibility for the planning, management, operation, coordination and regular monitoring of the projects at the field level to ensure smooth implementation of all project activities including development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation as well as strengthening the technical capacity of the project team members.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide programmatic guidance and operational support for field activities and coordinate FaIDA environmental restoration and livelihood recovery projects in both the host community and Refugee interventions
• Provide programmatic guidance and operational support for field activities and coordinate FaIDA WASH intervention in Kambioos Refugee camp in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services (CRS)
• Develop and nurture a clear understanding of the programme of work throughout FaIDA Dadaab Programme and device projects that promote drought coping and adaptation among local communities as well as peace building among communities
• Proposal writing and fundraising and donor reporting
• Ensure that project interventions are in line with humanitarian principles and code of conduct for Humanitarian agencies.
• Project management: Ensuring achievement of objectives in time and within agreed budget, following donor requirements and ensuring effective teamwork as well as coordination of all field activities and ensuring security and employee performance and supervision.
• Carry out monitoring and evaluation and project reporting to ensure the projects meets quality standards and donor criteria.
• Advice on decision making regarding project implementation and budget management.
• Safeguarding program quality; maintaining an overview of the programme and evaluating the quality of work and results; Handling and monitoring the project process for the design through contracts and final reports.
• Promoting counterpart’s quality of work; Monitoring and administering counterpart’s quality of work; accompanying and giving direction to counterparts so that they improve on their quality.
• Networking with other agencies/government involved in similar programs and attend relevant network/coordination meeting both at national and local levels.

Coordination/Representation:
• Act as the agency focal point in the inter-agency meetings and coordination in the Environment and WASH clusters and other inter-agency meetings in Dadaab.
• Develop, nurture and sustain relationships with relevant stakeholders including the local Government departments, donors, NGOs and other agencies working in Kambi oos;
• Represent FaIDA in relevant sector clusters or other coordination mechanisms;
• Promote learning based on projects objectives and activities and ensure documentation and sharing of learning with all stakeholders;
• Comply with FaIDA policies and practices with respect to environment, child protection and security procedures and behave at all times in a manner which positively promotes FaIDA and its work, and actively maintain FaIDA acceptance within the camp.

Information and Knowledge Management:
• Maintain good inter-team communications and initiate good team dynamics.
• Ensure all new team members are adequately briefed on arrival in the field, and departing team members are debriefed.
• Ensure the development of individual work plan and implement the FaIDA individual performance evaluation system.

Finance and Reporting:
• As a budget holder, ensure that all the financial and logistical procedures are followed
• Produce regular budget forecast.
• Ensure regular tracking of projects expenditure and budget review
• Produce quality weekly and monthly narrative reports that comply with the donor requirements and ensure reports and submitted in a timely manner
• Keep the Head of Programs & Operation informed on progress of planned activities and any challenges or interruption to implementation that may arise

Security:
• Ensure the compliance to security procedures.
• Produce regular weekly security sitrep
• Proactively monitor the political and security situation in the project areas and respond accordingly

Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements and Experience
Essential
• Minimum 6 years experience in project management
• Minimum of four years responsibility for project management including budget follow up and control
• Experience of working within the context of emergency relief and in hardship areas
• Past experience working with a humanitarian organization (UN or INGO), working in diverse cultural backgrounds
• Computer literacy in MS office and Internet packages
• Dynamism, high level of motivation Capacity to work under pressure and in humanitarian crisis situations
• Good capacity to interact with variety of local stakeholders (teams members, host communities, refugees, etc…)
• Ability to live in difficult conditions (major security constraints, common compound with all staff, restricted movements and limited access to medical facilities).
• Degree in developmental studies, social Community Development, Project Management or equivalent
• Good organizational skills / capacity to prioritize

Complementary:
• Masters Degree in any of the above stated will be of advantage
• Experience in developing and implementing trainings

Overall Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Co-ordinator, Will review previous activities of rain water harvesting, including runoff/run-on under the overall supervision of the FFA projects.
Main responsibility will be to ensure proper design, implementation and monitoring of food for assets projects in areas covered by Isiolo PRRO project.

The main tasks for this post will include but not limited to:
• To ensure community Based targeting and distribution guidelines are followed.
• To ensure that food For Asset guidelines are adhered to.
• Working with District and County Steering Groups in the district and county levels.
• Identify areas that have good potential (based on social-cultural, land slopes, soils and rainfall) for rainwater harvesting based projects.
• Develop clear boundaries of watershed of the identified projects
• Consult the community leaders and communities on the most suitable intervention focusing, but not limited to Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) for the specific areas.
• Develop project proposals for the implementation of the identified projects and present for approval through the relevant structures.
• Develop actionable work plans for implementation of FFA activities
• Develop appropriate partnership with respective line ministries, NGOs, CBOs and UN agencies
• Train the communities and staff on the implementation of RWH technologies
• Organize and supervise the communities during the implementation of FFA projects
• Prepare monthly progress report on FFA and submit to the relevant organizations

The Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS) program is funded by USAID and responds to the complex crisis that has evolved in Somalia.
The overall program goal is to mitigate conflict; to promote stability and community cohesion, and to strengthen citizens’ relationships with government officials. TIS implements quick impact activities linked to longer-term stabilization goals.
The TIS program is currently seeking a skilled, diplomatic, effective, and highly motivated Field Coordinator.
As our Field Coordinator, you will work closely with USAID, DAI’s program team (particularly the Chief of Party, Senior Grants Manager, and Project Advisors), Somali government officials, and community leaders to identify program activities that support the above noted program objectives.
The work of the Field Coordinator (FC) requires detailed knowledge of Somali social-political context, highly developed collaboration and networking skills and the exercise of discretion, judgment, and personal responsibility.
Qualifications and skills sought:    
• Bachelor/Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Development or appropriate field preferred.
• At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience are required.
• Three to five years of experience working with USAID or an international donor is preferred. 
• Experience in program development; monitoring and evaluation; reporting; budgeting; highly sought.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Previous experience working in Somalia particularly South Central Somalia required.
• In addition, must be flexible, willing to perform assigned and additional duties and work irregular hours under unpredictable conditions.
• Demonstrated expertise working in Somalia on socio-political and cultural issues.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to manage a diverse range of professional relationships essential.
• Outstanding writing and communication skills.
• English and Somali language fluency required.
